Guaranteed lens performance

BBGR carries out a series of tests throughout the entire manufacturing process to guarantee its products' quality. These checks, carried out on the actual lens as well as its coatings, meets a number of well-defined criteria according to each product's specific characteristics.

Stock finished and semi-finished lenses

200 finished stock lenses are sampled every week to check the cosmetic aspects and the tint, comparing it with a coloration standard under a ceiling light that reproduces daylight. Samples are also taken regularly to check semi-finished lenses. The geometric criteria of the convex surface is checked by sophisticated devices such as the radiuscope, which measures radii with great accuracy

Prescription lenses

Every day, the quality assurance department takes a sample of about a dozen lenses for testing purposes. These lenses are subjected to a series of different checks, including various measurements and destructive tests, to make sure BBGR lenses are reliable. Some of the tests involve measuring light transmission and anti-reflective coating parameters. These elements define the antireflective colour, tint saturation and reflection levels.

The various checks include a series of destructive tests

The adherence test measures the varnish's resistance to being torn off.

The N x 10 knocks and RC02 tests concern anti-reflective coated organic lenses. The first ensures that the various layers of the anti-reflective coating adhere to each other satisfactorily, while the second measures resistance to a chemical attack combined with a rise in temperature.

The abrasimeter test, the rubber test and RC03 test are carried out on mineral lenses. The first two stimulate the antireflective coating's resistance to wiping and rubbing, while the third measures its resistance to a chemical attack combined with a rise in temperature.

Sampling just prior to dispatch in parallel with these tests, around 250 lenses are sampled every month to check all cosmetic, optical and packaging criteria. Analyses requested by customers complement the technical information gathered about the lens.

Test compliance

The tests comply with the requirements of the CE standard, as do the tests for mechanical resistance and transmission. BBGR also carries out other series of tests, for physiological compatibility and inflammability, for example.
